Specialized Entry Programs
Northeastern offers several innovative programs for freshman and transfer students designed to enhance the academic experience and provide an added level of support and guidance.
The University Honors Program
Exceptionally motivated students who are seeking an opportunity to enhance their educational experience may be invited to join the University Honors Program. The Honors community is an active group of thinkers who are committed to making a difference. They benefit from demanding and challenging academic opportunities, as well as living and learning options in thematic communities. Scholars who are invited into are among our most highly accomplished and motivated prospective students, and will be notified of their selection in their admission letter. There is no separate application, and only students admitted for the fall semester are considered for this program.
NUin
This program is designed specifically for freshman students who are admitted for the Spring semester. Due to space limitations, Northeastern admits a number of well qualified students who have applied for the fall to the spring semester. Students admitted for the spring may choose how they will spend their fall semester. Those that are interested in a global experience before arriving to campus may choose NUin, which is offered in several international locations. Past sites include Greece, England, and Australia. While abroad, NUin participants earn 17 college credits, engage in the local community through service learning, participate in excursions and gain independence all while expanding their horizons with an enriching international experience.
Global Pathways
International students may choose to take advantage of this opportunity to experience life at a top American university while preparing for a US Bachelor's or Master's degree. The Global Pathways program offers the opportunity for academic study along with intensive English language training and university study skills preparation. Students may choose to start the program in January, May, or September. Students take challenging and exciting courses, get involved in activities outside the classroom and meet new people from around the world while studying at a world-class university.
U.S. Sino Pathways Program
This unique program, designed by a consortium of leading American universities, provides an academically rigorous pathway for talented Chinese students who want to pursue their undergraduate studies in the US. Available in 8 cities in China, the US-Sino Pathway Program offers all the advantages of a foundation program. Students receive guaranteed admission to a top US college, a year of course credits towards a bachelor's degree, comprehensive English preparation, and a supportive learning environment upon successful completion of this program.
Foundation Year
This innovative first-year college program is designed for recent high school graduates and GED completers who would like to pursue a college education and would benefit from a more structured and supportive first year in order to be successful in the rest of their college career. Foundation Year offers students rigorous academic and career preparation as well as wraparound support services that include advising, tutoring, mentoring, social networking, and work ready skills.
