Academics

Northeastern takes a flexible student-centered approach to academics that allows you to create the education that best suits your goals and aspirations.

You'll have the choice of a four-year or five-year program of study, both offering all the benefits of our experiential approach to education. We integrate course work in more than 80 undergraduate majors with experience-through our signature co-op program, global study, research, and service-in the United States and 69 countries around the world.

Our comprehensive range of undergraduate and graduate programs in eight colleges include options for interdisciplinary and combined majors that connect to emerging new fields, plus combined major programs that enable you to earn a bachelor's and master's degree in five years.

Whether you enter Northeastern focused on a particular major or undecided about your course of study, our experiential learning options offer you pathways to discover your passion-and shape the world-before you graduate.

  • Co-op will enable you to gain up to 18 months of professional experience with more than 2,000 employers in finance, industry, government, health care, technology, the arts, and media.
  • Our options for undergraduate research will put you at the forefront of discovery with a focus on solving global challenges in health, security, and sustainability.
  • Service opportunities will connect you with schools, neighborhood agencies, health clinics, and other nonprofit organizations, broadening your understanding of urban communities and issues.
  • You will engage the world and prepare for success in the global economy through global learning alternatives—including co-op, research, and service, plus unique programs like Dialogue of Civilizations.

You'll find that these robust experiences combined with challenging classroom studies prepares you to chart your own path, pursue new challenges, and become an engaged citizen of the world. You'll approach your course work with greater passion and purpose, and graduate with clarity about your goals and the confidence to achieve them.
