Hortensia Amaro
Distinguished Professor
Counseling and Applied Educational Psychology
An expert in social and developmental psychology, public-health research and practice, and public service, Amaro has conducted extensive research on alcohol and drug use among adolescents and adults, the effectiveness of HIV/AIDS prevention programs, and substance-abuse treatment for women.

Gilda Barabino
DiPietro Assistant Professor
Chemical Engineering
A member of the chemical engineering department since 1989, Barabino's research specialties are in the areas of bio-fluid mechanics, bioreactors, and sickle cell disease. She is a past recipient of the ASEE Dow Outstanding New Faculty Award for the New England section and was recently honored with a National Science Foundation Visiting Professorship for Women.

Michael Dukakis
Distinguished Professor
Political Science
A former governor of Massachusetts and Democratic nominee for president in 1988, Dukakis is widely sought out by the local, state, and national media to comment on such issues as public transportation, presidential elections, and health policy.

James Alan Fox
Lipman Family Professor
Criminal Justice
A nationally recognized authority on homicide, Fox can be seen regularly on national television programs and news broadcasts, including "48 Hours," "20/20," and "Dateline." A former dean of the College of Criminal Justice, Fox specializes in serial and mass murder, juvenile violence, capital punishment, and statistical methods, having published more than a dozen books on these topics.

Ban-An Khaw
Behrakis Professor
Pharmaceutical Sciences
Khaw, who also serves as director of Northeastern's Center for Cardiovascular Targeting, is seeking through his research to develop new approaches for diagnosis of various cardiovascular diseases and cancer.

Jack Levin

Sociology and Athropology
A social psychologist and prolific author, Levin's research interests include prejudice, school violence, riots, celebrities in popular culture, and hate crimes. Levin's irrepressable manner and renowned expertise have made him a favorite of the media and one of the most popular teachers on campus.

Albert Sacco Jr.
George A. Snell Chair
Engineering
Sacco, a former NASA astronaut who served as a payload specialist aboard the space shuttle Columbia, is the author of more than 125 publications on carbon filament initiation and growth, catalyst deactivation, zeolite synthesis, and microgravity materials processing. He also serves as director of Northeastern Center for Advanced Microgravity Materials Processing.
