Policy Title: Voluntary Deductions and Reductions
Policy / Procedure No: PAY005
Purpose: Payroll Operations is responsible for ensuring that voluntary deductions are put into effect according to the employee's wishes and are in compliance with government regulations.
Documentation Needed: Written authorization from the employee
Contact Department: HR/Payroll Service Center, 250 Columbus Place, x2230


  1. Employee sends written authorization for the desired deduction or reduction (e.g., for the Credit Union, NU Charitable Funds Campaign, TIAA/Fidelity, and so on).

  2. Payroll Operations staff updates the employee record and the employee's taxable salary and/or net pay is reduced accordingly.

  3. Payroll Operations staff disburses withheld amounts.
