Boren Scholarships provide American undergraduate students with the resources and encouragement they need to acquire skills and experiences in areas of the world critical to the future security of our nation. In exchange, the recipient commits to seek work in the federal government.
Marcus Carroll, SSH’15, international affairs major, Japanese, East Asian studies, and economics minors
This Presidential Global Scholar and honors student has been a Japanese language tutor since 2011. His broad international experience includes two co-ops as an English teacher at the Jiahua School in Shenzhen, China, and a co-op at the U.S. Commercial Service in Hong Kong, where he assisted U.S. exporters by providing market research, trade leads, and business contacts. Marcus is active in the Northeastern Japanese Culture Club and is a recipient of the Excellence Scholarship. The Boren Scholarship will allow him to study in Japan.
