The Pan Asian American Council (PAAC)
Mission Statement
In recognition of the diversity of the Asian American community at Northeastern University, the Pan Asian American Council seeks to create a common space for dialogue among all Asian American students at Northeastern University. The Pan Asian American Council aims to provide support, training and resources for Asian American students, particularly those serving in leadership positions in their respective organizations. The Pan Asian American Council recognizes the importance of individual Asian American student organizations at Northeastern, but also aims to define the common ground that is the foundation for all of these student organizations.
Core Values
COMMUNITY – The Pan Asian American Council aims to build a truly pan-ethnic Asian American community that is reflective of the diversity of the Asian American community, not only in terms of race and ethnicity, but also along lines of gender, sexual orientation, socioeconomic status, religion, and ability.
LEADERSHIP DEVELOPMENT – The Pan Asian American Council hopes to provide opportunities for the continual development of student leaders.
CONNECTION – The Pan Asian American Council seeks to build connections within the Asian American Community and beyond through dialogue, outreach, and partnerships.
Structure
The Pan Asian American Council is made up of 2 representatives from each of the 8 Asian American student organizations, 2 at-large representatives, and 2 co-chairs. It is highly encouraged that one of each organization’s PAAC representatives be either the president or vice-president of the organization to facilitate communication and collaboration. Each member of the Council is expected to hold that position for the academic year. AAC Meetings will be held on a bi-weekly basis, typically on Tuesdays from 6:00pm to 7:30pm at the Asian American Center. All members of PAAC are expected to attend and participate in each of these meetings.
Nominations for the co-chair positions will begin in the spring semester for the following academic year. Any Northeastern student can submit a nomination for these positions.
The PAAC co-chairs will report to the Director of the Asian American Center. The co-chairs will be expected to meet with the staff of the Asian American Center on a weekly basis, and to help plan and implement the summer leadership retreat.
