Letter from the Director
October 2006
Dear Friends,
I hope you all have had a productive and enjoyable Fall Semester.
The staff and I are hope that many of you have found an opportunity to
participate in at least one of our events and programs over the past
two months. We have been thrilled with the attendance, and the feedback
we have received about the quality of the programs.
It is hard to believe, but the renovations to 109 Hemenway Street
are complete. With new paint on the walls, new comfortable couches, and
among other rooms - a new computer lab, we hope that students will take
advantage of the space and resources that are provided here at the
Center. We hope to post photos of the renovated space on this website
so you can have a quick preview of the interior.
In addition, we would encourage you to visit the space in person. A
perfect opportunity is our upcoming Open House on Thursday, October 26,
from 1 PM to 4:30 PM. Come and stop by, mingle with other students,
faculty, and staff, and enjoy some food.
Beyond the Open House, Delia has been busy planning numerous events
and educational programs that are open to anyone with an interest in
learning more about Asian American issues. Noted author Shawn Wong will
be here November 1 to chat about "American Knees". Harvard researcher
Vivian Louie will be here November 2 to speak about the model minority
myth, and Jen Chau from New Demographic will visit us from New York on
November 20th to lead a discussion on multiracial identity.
As excited as we are about the programs that we are developing, we
also welcome feedback and suggestions from members of the community. We
look forward to developing partnerships with individuals and groups who
share a similar interest in providing venues for greater engagement
with, and exploration of, the Asian American experience.
Please feel free to visit us at the Center, or to contact us by
email or phone. We look forward to meeting you during Welcome Week.
Cheers,

Andrew Shen
