Asian American Center Awards

Each year, the Asian American Center awards annual prizes to members of the Northeastern community in recognition of their excellent work and support of the Asian American community within and outside of Northeastern’s campus. The selection process begins with nominations submitted by members of the community on behalf of individuals that they feel exemplify the purpose and scope of the prizes listed below.

Please consider nominating those who you believe are most deserving of these prizes.The prizes will be awarded at the AAC’s end-of-year celebration, INSPIR(ASIAN) to be held on Friday, April 15, 2011.

LIST OF PRIZES

RONALD TAKAKI PRIZE FOR COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT

This prize is awarded to a student who has demonstrated significant commitment to increasing awareness and visibility of Asian American issues and experiences on and/or beyond campus. S/he has worked diligently (and effectively) to advance the interests of the Asian American community on campus through the development of meaningful programs, events, and other initiatives. The recipient of this award will have had critical roles in the programs or projects in which s/he was involved. Nominations should be sure to include specific examples and details about both the events/programs as well as the nominee’s role. Please note that neither the nominee nor the program/project examples need to have ties to the Asian American Center.

Eligibility: Any NU undergraduate student enrolled during the 2010-2011 academic year.

HELEN ZIA PRIZE FOR LEADERSHIP

This prize is awarded to a student who has demonstrated positive leadership and initiative in providing support and opportunities for the growth of the APA student community through advocacy work, programming, support services, or involvement in key initiatives. Please note that neither the nominee nor the program in which s/he was a part of need to have ties to the Asian American Center. The only requirement is that the nominee, through his/her leadership work, has advanced the interests and experiences of the APA community at Northeastern.

Eligibility: Any NU undergraduate student enrolled during the 2010-2011 academic year who has also served on a student organization executive board during that period.
